Zelda Rae Kietzmann was born on November 6, 1937, in Center Township, Calhoun County, Iowa, the daughter of Adolph and Bertha (Ost) Kietzmann. She attended country school in that area, and then graduated from Manson High School in 1955. On November 10, 1955, she married Dale Lightfoot  at Sac City, Iowa, and they had a family of four sons and one daughter. Their marriage later ended in divorce in 1984. Zelda returned to school and received her Associate of Science Degree from Iowa Central Community College in 1988. With her degree, she was employed at Friendship Haven in Fort Dodge, working first as Activities Assistant, and then in the janitorial department, interacting with residents while maintaining their place of residence. Her employment at Friendship Haven extended for 20 years.

Among her survivors are her children Alan (Barb) Lightfoot of Bagley, IA; Clarann Lightfoot of Bayard, IA; Paul Lightfoot of Storm Lake, IA; and Lynn Lightfoot of Manson, IA; eight grandchildren and several great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son Wayne; great grandchildren Dathan Lightfoot and Cathleen Conine; and her brother Joel Kietzmann.
