Wayne Frederick Dohrmann, 83, of Manson, died August 25th, 2020 at Methodist Hospital in Des Moines of complications of stroke, following a lengthy battle with cancer.
Wayne was born on February 20th, 1937, in Hampton, IA, and graduated from CAL Community Schools. He was married to Phyllis Ratcliff of Eagle Grove, IA on July 18th, 1959. He earned his B.S. from Wartburg College and his M.A. from Illinois Wesleyan University. From 1961 to 1974 he taught science, chemistry, and physics and was long-time junior sponsor at Manson Community Schools. He became an agent with Farm Bureau Insurance of Iowa and advanced in his career to become agency manager at Farm Bureau’s Calhoun, Carroll, Pocahontas, Sac and Buena Vista county offices. He owned and operated an independent insurance and realty office in Manson, Wayne Dohrmann & Associates, Inc., for several years following.
He served in the Iowa National Guard, on the Manson Community School Board, and church council at St. Paul Lutheran in Manson, where he was a member since 1961.
Wayne was an avid musician. A singer and guitar player, he performed and composed music throughout his life. He performed with the Manson Meridian Singers for many years.
Wanye is survived by his wife Phyllis; sons Dennis Dohrmann of Waukee, IA; and Scott Dohrmann of Madison, TN; three grandchildren; Jared Dohrmann of Waukee, IA; Sydney and Justin Dohrmann of Madison, TN: brother Gerald (Ruby) Dohrmann of DePere, WI; brother-in-law Cecil Groven of Garner, IA; sister-in-law VaDonna Dohrmann of Salina, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Louis and Kenneth; and sister Lenora Groven.
