Vickie Wood Obituary

Vickie R. Wood

July 21,1952 - September 23, 2020

68 Years young

Vickie R. Wood (68 years old) married Doug on October 27,1972. They were fortunate to travel the world with Doug serving in the United States Airforce.  Vickie cared for the kids while Doug served in the military.  After moving back to Manson, Vickie worked for the Manson Northwest Webster School District as a custodian and Kitchen staff for several years.  Vickie was a huge supporter of MNW athletics and worked various wrestling meets and tournaments over the years.  She enjoyed watching her grandchildren participate in the various activities at MNW at all levels.  Vickie also worked at the Zinnel day care for many years, impacting many of the young children in the Manson area community that attended the daycare. She was Grandma Vickie to many kids beyond her own.

Vickie definitely had a sense of humor.  Her grandkids were her life and joy.  They had her always doing and saying some pretty comical phrases.  There was never a dull moment.  Vickie loved traveling to Las Vegas with her family, and boy, did we have some fun memories.  Mom drove a scooter on every Las Vegas adventure and each of the 8-10 times traveling to Vegas she gave us something to both laugh and cry about each time.  Let's just say she drove the scooter like there was no tomorrow.  Not only did Kevin get run over every time getting on and off the elevator, she had other mishaps as well.  She ran into the trash can at Ceasar's where hundreds of people heard and witnessed the crash, and mom was laughing so hard she couldn't drive away and just laughed.  Or, the time someone messed with the speed control on her scooter and she drove up to the counter to get a player's card and nearly took off Travis' fingers by hitting the counter so hard it moved the entire thing.  We all laughed endlessly.  Those were just a few of the many memories with mom (Vickie).  She was an amazing mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and in-law that loved to cook for her family.  We loved mom's cooking and will always save a seat at the table for her each holiday and family gathering.

Vickie R. Wood, survived by her 4 kids, Chris (Bliss) Wood of Manson, Kevin (Dodie) Wood of Linn Grove, Cindy (Jake) Jones of Fort Dodge, and Anna (Bryan) Hammond of Wentzville,  Missouri.  She also recognized Sandy Rodenberg as another daughter and Yuma Shimokura as her third son as well as his family in Japan, two bonus grandchildren.  Vickie was blessed to have so many loved ones surrounding her in the final days.  She was blessed with 18 grandchildren, three great grandchildren and one on the way.  Vickie's grandkids loved her dearly starting with Shelby, Keaton, Emma, Jeremy, Cameron and baby Wood, Rylee, Reyd, Tristan, Taylor, Alexis, Kadin, Addison, Drew, Bryanna, and Brady. Great Grandchildren Kaiden Simpson, Aiden Hammond, and Brayden Hammond.

Vickie is also survived by her brother Robert (Max) Dodds, niece Kelli (Travis) Girard and family, nephew Andy (Andrea) Dodds, and niece Pamela Geel and brother-in-law Joe Black. She is also survived by Terri (Merlin) Boittnot (sister-in-law), Barry Wood and family, Christine and Larry Pierce (sister-in-law) and family, and Annie Schreier and family.

We would also like to recognize those family members that left us far too early.  The late Doug Wood (Vickie's husband), Lindy Black (Vickie's sister), Charlotte and Paul Harmon (Vickie's

mom and step father), George and Donna Wood (mother and father in-law), and her father, Charles Dodds.

Vickie will be dearly missed by her kids, grandchildren, family, and friends. We love and miss you, mom!
