Richard Stewart Obituary

Richard Harrison Stewart 103, passed away peacefully at the Paula J Baber Hospice House in Fort Dodge, Iowa on October 31st. He was born August 29, 1919, in Lynch, Nebraska. He was the third of five children born to Harold E. and Carrie E. King Stewart. He grew up in Nebraska and graduated in 1938. 
He moved to California to find work and there he met his soon to be wife, Alene Marie Seaborg. They were married on March 17, 1944. They had a long fulfilled life together in their 76 years of marriage.  They were blessed with two daughters Kathy and Donna.  Alene passed away in December of 2020. 
He was drafted into WWII and left for service in July 1944.  He returned home on May 7, 1946.
Richard had a welding shop in Manson for a few years and then he and Alene and their children return to California. He was employed as a machinist for 26 years at Fort Ord in Monterey California. After his retirement he spent his time helping his girls with their new homes, projects at church, small engine repairs and cabinet making. He was very skillful and could fix or construct just about anything. He was an active member for over 50 years at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Gilroy, California.
After 56 years of living in California they return to Iowa. 
He survived by his daughters Kathy and David Singletary, Gilroy, California, Donna and Eddie Zehr of Manson, Iowa. Grandchildren Daniel (Braden) Singletary, Andrew (BJ) Singletary, Jake (Amy) Zehr, Erin (Kerry) Peterson, Jeff (Ann) Zehr. Great-grandchildren Jackson and Joe Zehr, Austin (Holly) Reicks, Cody Peterson, Jorden and Alex Zehr. Great great grandchild Layne Reicks.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Alene, sisters Dorothy, Audrey, Eris, and Irma and great granddaughter Katie.
