Paul Johnson Obituary

Paul Curtis Johnson, son of Curtis and Charlotte (Wenzel) Johnson, was born April 10, 1952, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He was raised in Pomeroy and graduated in 1970. Following graduation, he began working for Iowa Hydraulics in Pocahontas. On December 20, 1975, he was united in marriage to Carol Porth at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Manson. They made their home in Pomeroy and enjoyed 47 years together. Paul began working with his father in the family business, Johnson Oil Company in 1983 and eventually took over. Paul loved meeting new people and serving the community until 2006. He worked at D&K Implement until retirement. He died after a battle with colon cancer at Pocahontas Community Hospital on March 8, 2023.

Together, Paul and Carol raised two daughters. His family came first but he was an active member in the Pomeroy community serving on church council, town council, school board, library board, Pomeroy-Palmer Athletic boosters, Pomeroy Care Center board and more. Paul was always up for a good road trip to new and reoccurring locations around Iowa. He thoroughly enjoyed eating out with friends, visiting museums, flea markets and anything related to history or the railroad. Saturday morning was a time for friends and new breakfast locations. The car frequently would find its way traveling south to Ames for Iowa State events. His football season tickets were renewed for the 50th time this winter. Father’s Day was often spent at shopping malls because he loved seeing his girls happy more than anything. While shopping he would strike up random conversations and find connections with those he met. After retirement Paul spent a lot of his free time helping friends at the Fonda Museum. While on the go as much as possible one destination that was always agree upon was time with the girls and their families. So much joy was found from time as a family watching Natalie, Nora and Clayton grow.

Paul is survived by his wife Carol; daughters Rachel (Rex) De Bruin of Ames and Lisa (Zac) Easley of Nevada, grandchildren Natalie and Nora De Bruin and Clayton Paul Easley; sisters Lelaine (Don) Anderson of Humboldt and Louise (Keith) Aljets of Parnell; sister-in-law Teresa Johnson of Northwood; siblings-in-law Sharon (Ron) Miller and Wendy (Tom) Wiemers and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Curt and Charlotte and brother David; in-laws Robert and Bernice Porth.
