Norman “Poodie” Wiemers, 88, of Manson, passed away on Friday August 18, 2023, at the Good Samaritan Society in Manson. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 28, 2023, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Palmer, IA with burial following at the Palmer Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:30 -10:30 a.m. prior to the service at the church.
Norman was born on the family farm in rural Manson on November 13, 1934, to Walter and Tena (Schoon) Wiemers. He grew up in the Manson area where he attended school. Norm was united in marriage to Sandra Foley on June 2, 1955, in Rockwell City. They made their home in the Manson area where Poodie worked as a mechanic for Rost Motors and farmed the family farm raising cattle and buying and selling hogs until his retirement. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Palmer and was also a member of the Palmer Snow Drifters. Poodie really enjoyed driving race cars, he started when he was 16 until his 40’s and was in several Racing Hall of Fames, Sports Park, Webster City, Kossuth County, Knoxville, and the Iowa Racing Hall of Fame. Poodie enjoyed snowmobiling, pickup pulling and anything with a motor, he also enjoyed traveling, playing golf and wintering in Arizona where they sold Native American Jewelry.
Norm is survived by his sons Bill (Karlene) Wiemers of Larchwood, IA, Ron (Pam) Wiemers of Manson, IA, Norm (Julie) Wiemers of Ankeny, IA and Tom (Wendy) Wiemers of Manson, IA; grandchildren Trisha (Kent) Steffes, Lyndsey (Josh) Feucht, Timothy Wiemers, Abbi (Chris) Pickard, Martha (Jeff) Randall and Mary Claire Wiemers; 9 great-grandchildren and sister-in-law Janice (Bill) Engle. He was preceded in death by his wife Sandra; parents Walter and Tena and his brother Raymond (Irma) Wiemers.
