Martin D. Nimke, age 69, passed away on October 24th, 2020 at his farm, where he loved to be.
Martin Duane Nimke was born on November 12th, 1950 in Fort Dodge, IA to Wilfred and Eldorda Nimke. He grew up on a small farm by Manson. He attended Augustana Lutheran Church and was confirmed in 1967. He graduated from Manson High School in 1969.
After high school, he attended Lincoln Technical Institute in Des Moines for automotive mechanics. He enlisted in the Army National Guard in 1971.
On September 30th, 1972, he was united in holy matrimony with Sandy Namanny at Augustana Lutheran Church. After marriage, Martin was employed at Volkswagen in Fort Dodge for 10 years and Storm Lake. Martin was known in the area for being the “Volkswagen” guy. In 1983 Martin transitioned to farming full time, fulfilling his lifelong dream. In addition to raising hogs, cattle, corn, soybeans and hay, Martin raised four children with his wife Sandy.
Martin had a passion for farming. When he wasn’t working on engines and machinery or building items for the farm, he was chasing and playing with his 10 grandchildren that he was so proud of. He also drove the “big” truck for O’Berg Trucking for 20 years.
Martin is survived by his wife, Sandy of 48 years. He is also survived by his children and grandchildren: Kevin (Deb) Nimke, Grant and Derek; Sharon Lowman, Jackson, Mitchell, Celia, and Adeline; Lonny (Shaun) Nimke, Alex and Alison; and Stacey (CJ) Faulkner, Hoyt and Amelia. He is also survived by his father, Wilfred Nimke, siblings, Thedora (David) Drost, Marvin (Danette) Nimke, and Gary (Marlene Nimke).
Martin is preceeded in death by his mother, Eldora Hedmann Nimke and two granddaughters, Grace Lynn Nimke and Sydney Mae Nimke.
