Marilyn Jud Obituary

“The earliest I can remember I was 3 years old when we lived in Richards, IA. My grandmother lived there about a block away. There was a grocery store & an elevator as the train went through on the edge of town a couple of blocks from our house.

A few years later we moved to the farm owned by Gus & Florence Gleason. The house was way above average – there were cloth sheets in different rooms up & downstairs.

My dad helped Gus farm for $1 a day & free rent. We had chickens & 1 cow we owned and Gus had cows in the pasture that we milked for him. I remember we had ducks & geese too. We had running water but we had to pump up this big pressure tank to get water to the faucets on both floors. About a year later one of the Groot farms became available for rent. It seems like it was 240 acres. We had a Case tractor and Dad purchased a John Deere tractor so mom could work in the field too. While I was out of school for the summer I took care of my sisters, Zadonna & Paulette, while Mom was farming with Dad. Many times, after the chores were done, it was off to Twin Lakes to fish & catch bullheads. We ate so many bullheads that I grew to dislike eating fish.

Carl & I dated since the summer of my freshman year. We had free outdoor movies next to Carl’s parents (JUD) Hardware store on main street Knierim. There were three Taverns, a Barbershop, a Telephone office with a pay phone as you entered, a Lumber yard, a Bank building (which Bonnie & Clyde robbed) and there was a Hatchery & small Restaurant owned by Oscar & Myrtle George. “

Marilyn graduated from Somers High School in 1949. While in high school she was a proud member of the girl’s basketball team. Carl Jud & Marilyn Ramthun married on August 7, 1949 in Rockwell City and made their home in Knierim. While Carl worked for the railroad, Marilyn briefly worked at the local Knierim telephone switchboard before working at Friendship Haven for over 25 years. She purchased Berry Hearing Aid Center in 1978 where she worked until she retired.

Carl & Marilyn had three children: Carlette (Allen) Jud-Paulson, Rick (Coral) Jud & Bill (Nancy) Jud. Grandchildren, great grandchildren & great great grandchildren: Tony Paulson, Tameron & Bennett; Nicole (Jim) Payne, Merrick, Molly & Potter; Mike (Rachael) Jud, Danielle, Miranda & Nathan; Cindy (Brent) Mitchell, Logan, Quinn & Drake; Rich (Robin) Jud, Harlie, Hunter (Braden & Beckett) Moser, Holden & Heather; Cory (Tiffany) Jones, Dylan (Makayla Larson), Carter, Grayson & Brannaugh; Alex (Bret) Smith, Mia & Ledger; Gabe (Stephanie) Jones, Julia, Gavin & Braxton.

Marilyn was member of Trinity Lutheran Church @ Knierim. Faith, Family & Friends were what she cherished most.
