Obituary

Mardella Ann Schreier, the daughter of Frank and Anna (Lang) Schreier, was born September 27, 1932, at the family’s farm in Calhoun County. She was raised on the farm and attended the Little Red Country School. She graduated from Manson High School in 1951. Following her education, Mardella worked for Gambles Department Store and Lillian’s Dress Shop in Fort Dodge. On February 6, 1954, she was united in marriage to Jim Waller at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Manson. The couple made their home on a farm west of Manson before purchasing Mardella’s childhood home where they remained until 1996 when they built their home in town. Mardella moved to Arlington Place in February of this year as she struggled with health concerns. She remained there until her final heavenly journey home on October 16th, 2022.

Together Mardella and Jim raised 9 children. There was nothing more important to Mardella than her faith, husband and her children. Mardella worked tirelessly providing for her family and maintaining a lovely home. Her days were spent caring for children, baking, cooking, canning, gardening, and cleaning. She remained devoted to her mother, calling her every day and assisting with her needs. Mardella assisted in daily farming operations making frequent trips to the fields and supporting Jim in whatever way necessary. She loved baking and quilting. Cinnamon rolls and cookies were staples in the Waller household. She was an active member of St. Thomas Catholic Church and was on the Little Red Schoolhouse board. Jim and Mardella loved to travel around the country together and enjoyed frequent trips with Missouri relatives, whom they enjoyed immensely. Likewise, they often gathered with good friends many Saturday evenings for dinner, drinks, and cards.

Mardella is survived by her children, Jerry (Becky) Waller of River Falls, WI, Randall James (Joann) Waller of Manson, Michael (Mary Jo) Waller of Manson, Daniel Joseph (Carla) Waller of Colleyville, TX, Douglas (Karen) Waller of Sioux Falls, Neil (Marcela) Waller of Keller, TX, Diane (Bruce) Larson of Armstrong, Denise (Todd) Townsend of Newton, and Maureen (Mark) Reinhardt of Neillsville, WI; 24 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and her brother, LaVern Schreier of Manson. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jim; brothers, Mervin, Lloyd, and Norman Schreier; and her great-grandson, Joseph Marlin Waller.

Memorials will be made to the Mayo Clinic’s Alzheimer’s Research Program.
