Lois Maxine Hoag was born Sept. 28, 1930, to Charles and Mabel (Anderson) Hoag at home in Manson. She grew up and received her education from Manson High School, graduating in the class of 1948. Lois continued her education, earning her teaching certificate from Cedar Falls and Buena Vista College, and taught in a one room school house in rural Manson, Iowa for three years.
On June 24, 1951, Lois was united in marriage to Lawrence Laverne Becker; the couple was blessed with three children LouJean, Scott, and Jill. They farmed near Manson, Iowa. Lois was proud to help Lawrence with the day-to-day farm operations and always enjoyed gardening, baking, canning, and sewing.
Lois was a great cook and was admired for her beautiful and delicious pies and her renowned potato salad. She loved having her family and friends around her kitchen table.
She was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church, and was very active with the Church ladies, teaching Sunday school, serving on committees, quilting, and providing food as needed. Most of all, Lois cherished time spent with her children, 8 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren who she was very proud of and loved.
Lois will be deeply missed by her children, LouJean (Tom) O'Brien, Scott (Rebecca) Becker,Jill (Doug) Litwiller, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and her sister-in-law Norma Hoag. She was preceded in death by her brothers William, Jim, and Milton, and her sisters Eileen and Nancy; grandson Logan Becker; and great-granddaughter Rebecca Hansen.
Lois's family would like to thank all her friends and caregivers at Good Samaritan for all the care she was given. And special thanks to the wonderful people at Unity Point Hospice who took such loving care of her in her last days.
