Lawrence L. Becker, the son of Carsten and Ella (Nieman) Becker, was born December 21, 1927, on a farm in Lizard Township, Pocahontas County. In 1941, the family moved to their home near Pomeroy and Lawrence graduated from Pomeroy High School in 1946. Following his education, he worked in Fort Dodge until enlisting into the United States Army in 1949. He was stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas, Camp Lee, Virginia, and at Columbus, Ohio until his honorable discharge in 1951. On June 24, 1951, he was united in marriage to Lois Maxine Hoag. The couple made their home in an apartment in Manson before moving to the Hoag family farm in January of 1952 where they farmed together and raised their three children. In November of 1981, the couple moved into Manson.
Lawrence and Lois were members of Augustana Lutheran Church. In 2019, they became residents of Good Samaritan Society and Mrs. Becker passed away in July of 2021.
Mr. Becker is survived by his children, LouJean O’Brien of Mallard, Scott (Rebecca) Becker of Manson, and Jill (Doug) Litwiller of Ames; 8 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; his brother, Gordon Becker of Manson; and sister-in-law, Joyce Vosberg of Manson. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lois; grandson, Logan; great-granddaughter, Rebecca; son-in-law, Thomas O’Brien; sister, Mavis Partlow; brother, Roger Becker; and sisters-in-law, Donna Becker and Juanita Becker.
