June Davis Obituary

June Davis passed comfortably in the presence of family after a long and productive life enriched by a large immediate and extended family as well as a wealth of friends. June was born on June 4, 1927 at Mount Carmel, Iowa, as the seventh of nine children of Clara Catherine Ortner Krebs and Joseph P. Krebs.

June grew up on a farm just east of Manson, Iowa, and lived most of her life in Manson with years also in Estherville and Rockwell City. After graduating from Manson High School in 1944, she married Eugene Willis Davis on June 14, 1945. They soon had a family of five children, Linda (Tom) Sigler, Manson; Cindy (Sheila Fluetsch) Davis, Bow, WA; Sandra (Dr. Daniel) Wilson, Upland, CA; Marcia Lynch, Rockwell City; and Paul (Joni) Davis, Marthasville, MO, all of whom survive her. She is also survived by three sisters, Norma Kline, Idaho Springs, CO; Marvyl Guess, Emmetsburg,IA; Barbara (James) Willett, Papillion, NE, sister-in-law Delores Smith, Sioux City, IA, in addition to 9 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and an array of nieces and nephews.

June was an unusually diligent and competent wife and mother who effectively raised five children single-handedly each week while husband Gene traveled the Midwest most Mondays through Fridays as an executive in the Merchant and Fidelity Bond business. She also was variously a Girl Scout leader, volunteer with Disabled American Veterans, and the Community Schools as well as a long-time assistant at the Rexall Drug Store and later the State Liquor Store in Manson. June loved music and had a beautiful soprano voice that was freely offered locally until late in her life. She was also a superb seamstress and needlepoint artist. She was, with Gene, an avid gardener, golfer, bridge-player and dancer which they enjoyed both in Iowa as well as winter trips to Texas, Florida, and Mexico – often with one or more of her sisters and their husbands.

June had a quiet pride and genial formality but above all else was an affable, fun-loving spirit and a strong Christian lady. Rosary will be held at the Larsen-Weishaar Funeral Home in Manson Friday February 14th at 4 pm with visitation to follow. A formal Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Thomas Church in Manson on Saturday February 15th at 10:30 am. Interment will be at St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery with a luncheon in the Church thereafter.

In lieu of flowers (which she loved), donations may be made in June’s memory to Accura Health Care (303 East 7th Street in Pomeroy, IA 50575) or to Kindred Hospice (831 Griffith Road, Carroll, IA 51401). The family wishes to express particular appreciation to Marcia Lynch, Linda and Tom Sigler, and Barbara and James Willett for - as they did with our father in 1999 - rendering every kind consideration and, increasingly, abundant loving care to our Mother June, whom we now pray - Requiem in Pacem.
