Joseph Butcher Obituary

Joseph Daryle Butcher was born on August 1, 1939, at Mercy Hospital in Fort Dodge, IA.  He was the son of Oscar and Nora A. (Hanson) Butcher.  

He grew up on a farm east of Palmer. His education included attending country school until 2nd grade, then he attended Manson School through 7th grade. At that time, he transferred to Palmer Public School and graduated in 1959.  Daryle served in the National Guard Airforce Reserves. He then worked at Woodruff Evans Construction in Fort Dodge and farmed with his father. Daryle was united in marriage to Sally Ann Sweet on July 7, 1963, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Manson, Iowa. The couple made their home east of Palmer. He farmed and raised cattle.

Daryle enjoyed talking and having coffee with the neighbors, fishing and ice fishing, hunting, playing cards, and telling “tales”.  He enjoyed spending time with his five grandchildren especially taking them fishing and attending their sporting events.  He had a special bond with his dogs throughout his life.  Daryle had a special friend in Albert Post and enjoyed trips exploring the country.  He was a member of the Our Savior United Methodist Church, Manson and a member of the Masons.

Daryle went home to be with Jesus on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at the Good Samaritan Center in Manson.  

He is survived by his wife, Sally, of 57 years; their children Joe (Beth) Butcher of Palmer and Laura (Dave) Schaefer of Spencer; Grandchildren, Benjamin (Kelly), Amber and Timothy Butcher, Tyler and Tanner Schaefer; sisters-in-law Betty Sweet, Irene Sweet, Gloria Brekke; brother-in-law Bob Sweet.
