Dwane Louis Junkman, the son of Louis John and Reka Marie (Gerdes) Junkman, was born April 21, 1935, at his family’s home near Fonda, Iowa. He was raised and attended school in Fonda and following his education, worked in various jobs in the area. He was united in marriage to Eileen Joyce Widestrom on March 8, 1959, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Manson. The couple made their home on a farm south of Jolley, Iowa, until moving to Manson in 1964.
He served many faithful years working for the Calhoun County Road Maintenance Department, later becoming foreman. Even his after retirement, he continued to work for the road department part-time. Dwane always kept a beautiful, large garden and enjoyed tending to it every day. He also enjoyed helping local farmers during harvest and tinkering with his tools in his shed. He loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed fishing and playing golf.
Dwane is survived by his wife, Eileen Junkman of Manson; children, Elaine (Jon) Merritt of Manson, Bruce (Lisa) Junkman of Chariton, and Renee Weideman of Estherville; grandchildren, Gregory (Aimee) Merritt, Jacob (Jessica) Merritt, Jillian (Reese) Morris, Eric (Krista) Junkman, Katie (Colin) Junkman, Bob Weideman, and Joe Weideman; and 7 great grandchildren, with two more on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis John and Reka Marie (Gerdes) Junkman; sisters, Delores Gerth and Norma Jean Ellis; sister-in-law Jo Anne Widestrom, son-in-law, Tom Weideman; and granddaughter, Debbie Weideman.
