Della Marjorie (Wittry) Nieland

Della Nieland, 91, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, August 24, 2020, at Friendship Haven in Ft. Dodge, IA. She was born in Breda, Iowa on November 13, 1928 to Bernard and Magdalen (Snyder) Wittry. Della met her beloved late husband Pat in Breda after he returned from WW II, and they married on August 25, 1948. She started her married life as a homemaker raising four boys and two daughters on a farm in Iowa. They moved into Manson and she lived there for 53 years creating a rich life full of family and friends. Della was an accomplished seamstress creating both of her daughters’ wedding dresses and altering suits at Foley’s Clothing for 25+ years. Della was very involved at St. Thomas Catholic Church, which included teaching CCD classes, women’s club, but most importantly playing the organ until into her 80s. She so loved her family and friends. Among her survivors are her sons Daniel (Cindy) Nieland of Ft. Dodge, IA; Craig (Nikki) Nieland of Manson, IA; daughters Sharon (Craig) Johnson of Manson, IA; Tricia (Rob) Wetzel of St. Louis, MO daughters-in-law Julie Nieland of Iowa City, IA and Mindy Weldon of Omaha, NE; 21 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; brothers Dale (Catherine) Wittry of Carroll, IA; John (Marceal) Wittry of Breda, IA; sisters-in-law Joan Wittry of Carroll, IA, and Jane Wittry of Allen, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Patrick; sons Allen and Douglas; and brothers Eugene, Romaine, and Ken Wittry.
