Deanne Kay (Dana) Janssen, 84, of Manson, passed away unexpectedly at Mercy One Hospital in Des Moines, IA on November 11, 2022.
Deanne was born on October 2, 1938 to Thomas and Dorothy Dana. She spent the majority of her childhood years growing up in Manson, graduating from Manson High School in 1957.
Deanne was united in marriage to her “childhood sweetheart” & the love of her life, Darrel Janssen on February 25, 1956. They had four children together. They farmed side by side on the Janssen Century Farm, embracing the country life. Deanne also enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing, but her children were always top priority. Her love of cooking spread to the Peppercorn Inn Restaurant in Manson and Memories & More Restaurant in Coon Rapids. Church was a big part of her life, offering her talents through teaching Sunday school, sewing banners, and being part of the women’s circle. She enjoyed being a member of the WaTanYe Club, that supported her hometown of Manson. Later in life she spent the winter months in Southern Texas learning new card games and winning at bingo.
Family meant everything to Deanne. Her happiest of times were those spent with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, they all looked forward to her homemade goodies with every visit.
Deanne is survived by her children: Macheal (Rick) Seydel of Coon Rapids, IA; Lori (Bill) Heiman of Fergus Falls, MN; Ronnette (Jeff) Shay of Kyle, TX; and Dana (Kris) Janssen of Mission, TX. Grandchildren: Andy (April) Seydel, Nic (Katie) Seydel, Emily Kucera, Kelsey (Matt) Jacoby, Justine (Jeremy) Shay-Sweat, Kaila (Rhett) Shoquist, Samantha (Thomas) Orlowski, Sebastian (Lori Owens) Janssen, Harley (Amy Jo Swalin) Janssen, and Karlee (Connor Sturtz) Buchanan. Great-grandchildren: Ethan Seydel, Ebon Seydel, Kirk Jacoby, LillyBell Jacoby, Alexander Jacoby, Ivy Jacoby, Peyton Shay-Sweat, Breacher Shoquist, Colt Shoquist, Lucian Janssen, Salem Janssen, Damon Janssen, Timber Lee Swalin, Rosalyn Swalin, and Hazel Janssen. Siblings: brother, Gary (Judy) Dana of Grand Junction, CO, sisters, Janice Wetter of Rockwell City, IA, Virjene Lindsey of LaVerne, CA, Vicki (Dave) Trumbo of Lafayette, CO, and nieces and nephews. Deanne was preceded in death by her husband, Darrel, her parents, Thomas and Dorothy Dana, grandson-in law, Peder Kucera, brother in-law, Ronald Wetter, and nephew, Timothy Wetter.
