Dean Hoag Obituary

Dean Gerald Hoag, Sr. was born April 24, 1933 to Roland and Helen
(Mather) Hoag in Bradgate, Iowa.  After graduation from Bradgate, Iowa  he went to work at Hormel in Fort Dodge. On March 1, 1953 he joined in wedded bliss to Doris Elaine Nelson for 63 years. He then entered the Army where he was stationed in
Texas, Michigan and Japan before coming back to Fort Dodge, Iowa. In 1964,
Dean and Doris bought a hobby farm on the outskirts of Knierim, Iowa.
He continued to work for Hormel until 1982 all the while enjoying the
Manson community and his family, by driving school bus, mowing cemetery
plots, singing with the Manson Meridians, being a member of Bethal Bible
and a faithful member of his church. Dean also served his county as a Calhoun County Supervisor for many years.  He valued this position so much that he would call into the meeting while being a snowbird in Arizona.
In 2004, Dean and Doris moved from the farm into Manson where Doris and
he enjoyed golfed and entertaining family and friends. In March 2016, they
moved to Prairie Vista Village in Altoona, Iowa to be closer to their family.
When Doris passed away, Dean continued to live at Prairie Vista until
December 2018 when he then moved to Colonial Village in Overland Park,
KS to be surrounded by his ever growing and loving family.  Dean was quick
witted and enjoyed sending you off with a “whatever” and drive carefully.
Dean enjoyed spending time with his family and loved all of the littles that
became a part of his life. Along with his 5 loving children and spouses, Dean
loved the title of Papa to his 15 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Dean loved to play any card game as well as watch the Cardinals in baseball
and the Hawkeyes in football.
He was loved and cherished by his family who survive him. His children:
Daughter: DeAnne (Hoag) Lewis and her children: Ronda and Matthew
Pennekamp, Daron Lewis and fiancé Alison Boll. Her grandchildren:
Kirstyn, Braxton, Lewis Pennekamp and Savannah Lewis. Son: Dean Gerald
Hoag Jr. (DG)  and wife Mary. Their children: Brenden and Christine Hoag, Drew
and Caitlin (Hoag) Daubman. Their grandchildren: Mary and Michaela Hoag
and Louisa and William Daubman. Son: Richard (Dick) Hoag and wife Sally
and their three daughters, Emily, Laura, and Jennifer Haynes. Daughter
Darcilyn (Hoag) and husband Dennis Depenbush and their sons Frank and
George Depenbush. Daughter Debra (Hoag) and husband, John Knipper and
their children Peter and Angela (Annie) Knipper. Dean is also survived by the many nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. As well as son-in-law, Ronald B. Lewis.
