David Ohrtman Obituary

David T. Ohrtman, 66, of Newell, IA, passed away peacefully at St.Luke's Hospital in Sioux City, IA, with family by his side on June 25, 2022.

Born October 29, 1955, in Fort Dodge, IA, David Thomas was the son of Thomas Henry and Helen Marie (Carlson) Ohrtman. He was raised in rural Fonda where he and his younger brother, Ed, attended school. He graduated from Fonda High School in 1974.

After David graduated he began working at Fitzpatrick Auto Sales doing auto body work. He enjoyed rebuilding old cars, fixing wrecked cars, and helping family and friends with repairs.

On June 7, 1986, he was united in marriage to Kimberly Killeen in Nashua, IA, at the Little Brown Church. David could often be found working as a farmer during this time. They later divorced. At this crossroad in his life he went to work at GCC, formerly Russels Ready Mix, of Storm Lake, IA. For 29 years David worked as a cement truck driver, five of those years as a payloader operator.

Left to cherish his memory include his daughter Ashley (Chris) Lewis of Manson, IA; two grandchildren Adrianna and Emmett; nephew Carl (Sarah) Ohrtman of Boone, IA, and their children Thomas, Adelyn, and Aleah; niece Rachel (Travis) Mohwinkel of Fonda, IA, and their children Emma and Sam; sister-in-law Sheryl. David was preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Helen Ohrtman; brother Edwin Ohrtman; son Jonathon Ohrtman; and father-in-law Richard Killeen.
