Darrell Wayne Kaufman passed away peacefully on October 19, 2020. Darrell was born March 19th, 1941 in Manson, Iowa to Olga and Victor Kaufman. He grew up on a farm with 3 younger siblings, which would shape his values and work ethic for the rest of his life. He attended one of Iowa's last one-room schools and loved to share stories of his school with his 6 grandchildren.
Darrell graduated from Morningside College in just 3 years then served in the Army and was stationed in Frankfurt, Germany. There he met his loving wife, Ingrid, of 55 years. Upon return home to the United States, his love of agriculture, actuarial acuity, and work ethic made him a perfect fit as an auditor in the office of Inspector General in the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He enjoyed traveling for work or with his family for pleasure. Whether overseas or in a travel trailer in the U.S., he and Ingrid loved discovering new places, and their children are grateful that he helped to instill a similar wanderlust in them.
Darrell's farming roots brought joy to his life from beginning to end. For the duration of his nearly 40-year career with the USDA, he continued to farm and raise cattle, and he passed his work ethic on to his 3 sons. Even after retirement, Darrell could often be found farming in his hometown of Manson, Iowa. With time, his focus turned to his beloved grandchildren. He would take trips with them to camp, fish, canoe and explore the world. He loved bringing the kids to church followed by brunch, a walk to the park, and a Sunday nap.
Darrell is survived by his wife, 3 sons and their families, 3 siblings, and a large network of extended family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all of them, especially his 6 grandchildren, who will think of their Opa every time they see a tractor.
