Christine Ahlrich Obituary

Christine Marie Poppen was born November 5, 1931, in Gilmore City, Iowa to parents Claus and Maria (Ricklefs) Poppen. She grew up on her parents' farm near Palmer, Iowa, and attended country school one mile from the farmstead. She was united in marriage with Marlyn Ahlrich on October 28, 1956, at St. John Lutheran Church, Lizard Township, Palmer, Iowa. She and Marlyn lived and worked on the farm for over 40 years south of Gilmore City before moving to Humboldt, Iowa, in 1996. She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and listening to music. She also enjoyed camping and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren at the family cabin on Lost Island Lake, Ruthven, Iowa. Christine was the organist at St. John's Lutheran Church, Palmer, Iowa, for over 50 years. She also served as a member of the Gilmore City Women's Auxiliary.

she is survived by her sons Rodney Ahlrich of Gilmore City, Iowa, and Terry (Sheri) Ahlrich of Le Mars, Iowa; grandchildren Nathan (Paula) Ahlrich, April (Greg) Smith, Tyler Ahlrich, Anna Ahlrich and Kara Ahlrich; great-grandchildren Matthew, Madelyn, Michael, and Johnny Ahlrich and Harlyn and Oaklyn Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Marlyn; and brothers Karl and Gerhard Poppen.
