Catherine Marie Hicks

Catherine Marie Hicks, 68, of Manson passed away on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Manson with Father Lynn Bruch officiating. Interment will follow at St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. with a Rosary Service at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 20, at Larson-Weishaar Funeral Home in Manson.

Cathy was born in Fort Dodge, IA on May 6, 1955, to Bill and Fran (Steinberg) Hicks. She graduated from Manson Senior High School in 1974. She graduated from the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) in 1978 with a BA in Education. She later went on to receive her MA in education from the University of Iowa.

Cathy was a devoted teacher and principal for over 40 years. She began teaching at Twin Rivers in Bode, IA, and then moved to Alburnett, IA, and then took on the principalship at Hudson, IA, and ended her career in education at Stuart, IA. After retiring from teaching, Cathy was the Director of Religious Education at All Saints Catholic Church in Stuart, IA. Cathy retired from many years of dedication to those she served in 2020 and moved to Manson to spend more time with her mom-her best friend-her confidant.

Cathy was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, great aunt, and friend. She touched the lives deeply of all those she met throughout her life. Cathy was kind, compassionate, generous, loyal, and fun-loving. Besides her love for her family, Cathy loved to go to the family’s summer home in Northern Minnesota to rejuvenate her spirit. Cathy never met a dog she didn’t like, and she had always cherished the beloved Mickey Mouse since she was a toddler. Her goal in life was to visit Disneyland as many times as possible. Her daily Diet Mountain Dew also brought a smile to her face. Cathy’s favorite movies were The Sound of Music and The Wizard of Oz. She had watched them countless times without fail. Whenever she was conversing with family, she would break out into a song that reminded her of what they were talking about. We know that Cathy is with our dear Lord & Savior. Her beautiful soul is at peace, and we rejoice in that today and celebrate her life.

Cathy is preceded in death by her father, Bill Hicks (1978) of Manson. Cathy is survived by her mother, Fran Hicks of Manson; siblings Jeff Hicks (Yvonne) of Rancho Cucamonga, CA, Mike Hicks (Sharon) of Swisher, IA, Deb Hicks Jones (Jerry) of Shorewood, MN, Sandy Hicks Swanson (Rod) of Baxter, MN and Pam Hicks Gergen (Mike) of Columbia, MO. Cathy is also survived by her nieces and nephews Brady Hicks (Megan) of Manson, Alyssa Hicks Poutre (Scott) of Badger, IA, Will Hicks of Swisher, IA and Beth Hicks of Philadelphia, PA, Alex Gergen of Shreveport, LA, and Maria Gergen of Seongnam-si, South Korea. Her cherished great nephews and great niece are James Hicks (Brady & Megan Hicks) and Damon & Luna Poutre (Alyssa & Scott Poutre).
