Velma Frances (Lakin) Hartig

Velma Lakin was born on February 21, 1920, at Huron, SD. She moved to the Manson area in 1931 and graduated from Barnum High School in 1939. She married Donald Hartig on March 20, 1940, and they built a small home in east Manson where they lived until 2005. Velma worked for two years in the kitchen of the Manson school, then worked for 21 years in the new baby department at Trinity Regional Hospital in Ft. Dodge. She enjoyed camping, sewing, and visiting with friends and relatives.

Velma is survived by her sons William (Carol) Hartig of Spencer, IA; Thomas (Jan) Hartig of Sequin, WA; Ronald (Doris) Hartig of Manson, IA; Wanda (Art) Johnson of Indianola, IA; nine grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Don; one sister; and two brothers.
