Ruth Muriel Zell

Ruth Zell, longtime employee of Prudential Insurance and volunteer at Lutheran Social Services, died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday March 10, 2019. She was 94.

Ruth Muriel Zell was born May 20, 1924 in Calhoun County, IA. To Carl and Emma (Marozik) Zell. She graduated from Manson Community School and AIB Business College of Des Moines. She lived and worked for 15 years in Des Moines and 5 years in Council Bluffs before moving to Sioux Falls, SD in 1962.

She was a long-time employee of Prudential Insurance Company as a secretary and office manager. After retirement she was a dedicated, full-time volunteer for 20 years at Sioux Falls Lutheran Social Services in the Foster Care program and was recognized as volunteer of the year.

Ruth was a lifetime member of the Lutheran Church. She was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in Knierim, IA and was a long-time active member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls.

Ruth never married and had no children. She is preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Emma Zell and her sister Norma Zell Geske and brother-law George Geske. She had five nieces and nephews: Muriel Geske Pfaff, Marcia Geske Crosby, John Geske, Joel Geske and Jim Geske (deceased); 11 great-nieces and nephews and a growing number of great-great nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2200 S Western Ave, Sioux Falls, SD on Saturday May 25 at 2 p.m. followed by a reception for family and friends. Internment of ashes will be at Greenfield Cemetery, Knierim, IA on Sunday May, 26 at 1 p.m.
