Glenn Westphal Obituary

 Glenn R Westphal passed away August 3, 2019 in the home of his son Larry Westphal in Lakeland, Florida.

Glenn, a life-long resident of Palmer, Iowa, was born in Bellville Township, Pocahontas, County, Iowa, on April 13, 1918 to Mr. and Mrs. August Westphal. A WW II veteran, he entered the U.S.  Army in May of 1944 and was discharged in January of 1946. Upon release from the Army, he joined his family in Palmer, Iowa and returned to work with the Buhs Produce Company. From there he moved into trucking, retiring from Umthum Trucking in 1986. He continued to drive part time and work with the local farmers during harvest season. He was a member of Saint Joseph/Saint Mary’s  Catholic Church and Palmer AMVETS and  American Legion Post 202 ( 75 Years).

Glenn was preceded in death by his loving wife of 69 years, Lillian (Korwes) Westphal. He is survived by his 4 children, Robert and wife Dolores of Winter Haven, FL, Larry of Lakeland, FL, Colleen (Westphal) Dayton and husband William of Camdenton, MO, and Douglas and wife Jeanette of Herndon, VA. In addition, there are 17 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Glenn was always willing to lend a helping hand and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

The family will receive friends on September 21, 2019 at 10:30, at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church, in Pomeroy Iowa. Interment will be at St Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Pomeroy, Iowa. They would prefer any memorials and donations be made to the Palmer American Legion.
